Domestic robot
Please help improve this article by adding reliable references. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (May 2008)
A domestic robot is a robot used for household chores. Thus far, there are only a few limited models, though science fiction writers and other speculators have suggested that they could become more common in the future. In 2006, Bill Gates wrote an article for Scientific American titled "A Robot in Every Home".
Many domestic robots are used for basic household chores, such as the trilobite and Roomba vacuum cleaner robot. Others are educational or entertainment robots, such as the HERO line of the 1980s or the AIBO. While most domestic robots are simplistic, some are connected to WiFi home networks or smart environments and are autonomous to a high degree. There were an estimated 3,540,000 service robots in use in 2006, compared with an estimated 950,000 industrial robots.

Main article: Robotic mapping
Home transport robots are a main element in the domestic robotic system, because they join specialized processes, moving objects at home (i.e. clothes from the bathroom to the washing machine or glasses from the table to the dishwasher):
STR (by Iberobotics). It includes Wi-Fi and USB connection to (domotics) network.
In 2006 Sharp said it has developed a humanoid robot that clears dishes from the table and puts them into a dishwasher. The robot (measuring 95x50x45cm) opens the door of the dishwasher, takes hold of teacups, rice bowls and plates, places them in the unit and closes the door

Spykee, a consumer spy robot.
Social robots
Robots whose main object is social interaction (partner robots) include:
Wakamaru, a humanoid robot designed to provide company for the elderly and less mobile people, made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, on sale from 2005
Paro, a robot baby seal intended to provide comfort to nursing home patients
PaPeRo, a robot designed by NEC to study robot-human interaction.

Domestic robots in popular culture
Many cartoons feature robot maids, notably Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons. Maid Robots are especially prominent in anime (in Japanese, they are called Meido Robo or Meido Roboto), and their Artificial Intelligence ranges from rudimentary to fully sentient and emotional, while their appearance ranges from obviously mechanical to human-like.

Handmade quilts as Displayed in Exhibitions and Trade Shows
Handmade quilts have a great scope of being showcased in exhibitions in different cities across the globe. These exhibitions enable an artist or weavers a chance to show their creations to thousands of visitors and buyers. In United States the NWQ Annual Quilt Show is one such fabulous event.
This annual show brings quilt makers, buyers, sellers, trade visitors and enthusiasts in general close together. This exhibition features brilliant creations by master weavers. Stunning designs and amazing varieties draw your attention. Creations in appliqué, needlework, embroidery, and weaving are a treat to watch. This exhibition is not only an opportunity for quilt makers to exhibit their craftsmanship but also to sell their creations. Many of these handmade quilts are real masterpieces and could be bought as prized possessions.
Northwest Quilters organizes this annual event for the benefit of both visitors and exhibitors. The exhibitors constitute weavers, craftsmen, artists, tailors, designers, embroidery experts, and departmental stores. Among the visitors are shop owners, media personnel, business promotion agents, art lovers, collectors, and enthusiastic buyers.
Another significant quilt exhibition is held in Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, Auburn in New York. Inception in 1981 this annual event attracts the most outstanding quilt makers. Handmade quilts have remarkable artistic worth and are treasured for their craftsmanship. This exhibition is an opportunity for weavers and buyers to interact and understand the details of handmade quilts. Workshops are held regularly to acquaint enthusiasts about the basics of quilt making. The different techniques of quilt making viz., knitting, weaving, appliqué, and stitching are explained and demonstrated in these workshops. Though these are not teaching centers in the strictest sense of the term, they are helpful in presenting a basic idea of quilt making.
This exhibition is an attempt to bring in traditional and modern day quilt makers on an even platform. Traditional rich creations are displayed alongside innovative designs in line and abstract compositions. Over the years brilliance has been observed in surface design of handmade quilts and their pictorial representations. Each year the exhibition gets enriched by newer designs and superior craftsmanship.
The traditional art of handmade quilts are being encouraged by art colleges and promotional agencies. Apart from trade shows and exhibitions of large scale, small scale shows are held in art colleges at regular intervals to encourage quilt makers and weavers. Quilt makers have also benefited substantially by these exhibitions and trade shows. Machine made quilts being cheaper and longer lasting have a mass appeal in commercial terms. Compared to these handmade quilts are expensive.
Exclusive design and superior craftsmanship make handmade quilts a superlative creation worthy of a royal patronage. As it is not easy to locate these weavers scattered over territories, art shows gives an opportunity to view and buy their creations. It is a marvelous effort by trade promotion agencies and welfare associations to bring these forgotten craftsmen to the forefront and keep a tradition alive.
Exclusivity of handmade quilts has made them a collector's choice across countries and continents. These quilts if preserved properly could be used for generations.

ROMANTIC IDEAS OF LIFE
This morning I awoke to the soft sound of raindrops hitting the tin roof of my new log cabin, curled up in a quilt, alone. Not so long ago that romantic image alighted the fantasy of living by myself in a log cabin in the mountains. It is now a reality, and not nearly as romantic; especially when I have to get up to load logs into the wood fire so I don't freeze by morning.
Merriam Webster describes romantic as: having no basis in fact; imaginary. Marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious or idealized.
In Chinese medicine, this visionary characteristic belongs to the element known as wood, which governs the right brain's ability to create what we would like to see, and implement plans to move toward. It also governs the emotional qualities of longing, yearning, and desire. Physiologically, the wood energies are able to harness our foundational reproductive energies and reroute them toward achievement of whatever goal we have envisioned: a new career, a new home, or perhaps more money. Nature, I have noticed, does not utilize this right brain characteristic to reproduce itself. It simply takes the reproductive energies, alights them, and creates more of itself. When nature moves toward a "goal", it is in survival mode, and turns off the reproductive energies so it can achieve its directive of staying alive. Human beings are the only creatures who possess romantic ideas that can actually blind them to the harsh realities of life as it is, so we can create what we want. Is this a gift or a curse?
Although all of life hungers to remain alive and can take action to do so, human beings are the only creatures who seem to have opinions about what is, judge it as right or wrong, and move toward its "correction." Again, we move out of reproductive mode and into survival mode when we alter our world to fit our ideas about it. It is precisely what allows us to take our creative energies and instead of creating babies, we can create art, museums, industrial products, religions and wars. When a goal is created in the mind and we move toward it, our hormonal focus shifts away from supporting the housekeeping functions like digestion and reproduction. The hypothalamus reduces production of gonadotropin releasing hormone, and produces gonadotropin inhibitory hormone instead. And the cascade goes on and on, altering pituitary, ovarian and cellular function to take us out of baby making mode.
In fact, this whole process is generated by our romantic ideas. When a baby is an idealistic goal, it moves out of our reproductive capacity to create it. I remember taking the pure longing for a child, turning it into a goal, and using all I knew to try to make it happen. BBT charts, timed intercourse, doctor visits, lab values, altering diet, and getting treated, as if I would magically come up with the baby recipe. Nope. Babies are not romantic ideas. Mine came on their own when I stopped trying to make them.
Life does what it does. When it is time to be in a cabin alone, the opportunity shows up. When it is time to stoke the fire, I stoke the fire. The more I can let go of my ideas about it, the more Life can live itself through me, beautifully unobstructed by my romantic goals.
