These day, log cabins can be seen in the grounds of many homes across the country and, as the Daily Telegraph has pointed out, such constructions can serve a range of purposes.
An article produced by the publication stated they can look pretty and are situated in a range of places.
The newspaper remarked: "It might be an office, a library, a children's den or a hideaway where you can escape the stresses of modern life. Call it a cabin or a shed or an annexe, these days the extra outdoor room is the home improvement of choice."
It went onto draw attention to the case of one family living in a classic four-bedroom town house in Camberwell, which is located in south London and is part of the borough of Southwark.
Natasha and Andrew Dabrowa decided to use space at the bottom of their garden that used to be a neglected brick wall as a place to locate a log cabin.
According to the pair, the addition to their home gave them additional flexibility.
Ms Badrowa stated: "First of all we thought it would be a garage because it has rear access.
"Then the idea just grew and we thought it could be like a mini house. We both come from large families, so we could have our siblings to stay. Or we thought my husband might run an office from there."
Indeed, garden offices are becoming more popular as more people around the UK work from home and need space in which to base themselves.
However, the couple's plans changed following the addition to the family of baby daughter Anushka, who is now aged seven.
They decided to make the construction a mini home for their au pair. Commenting on the decision, Ms Badrowa stated: "My husband is Polish so we wanted someone who could speak the language and help a bit. It has been so good."

This saw has given me no problems and has done a great job on concrete, lumber, tree branches (no chain saw )-: ), etc. I guess it's a little on the heavy side, but I appreciate that it isn't easy to break (I've "experimented" with dropping it once or twice).

Open Fires Needn't Cost the Earth - Log Makers, Log Stores and Recycling
There is nothing like then warmth of an open fire on a cold winter's night but in an eco-friendly world, burning wood from the log store is certainly questionable for our environment, but it doesn't have to be!
The flames dancing; logs crackling; smoke billowing up the chimney - there is nothing like a wood-burning fireplace. There are financial benefits too, especially if you use wood-burning stoves as well to cook with. But burning all this wood and pumping it into the environment surely doesn't go with a modern eco-friendly lifestyle?
But hang on, heating and cooking one's home in this way, can be green - especially when you start recycling and make your own logs or even use a device like a log maker.
Nearly a third of household waste can be burned: from junk mail and shredded cheque books to old tea bags and old toilet rolls and while the carbon produced by burning such items is certainly not great for the environment you have to take a wider look.
By recycling and burning waste to heat our homes or cook dinner we are of course pumping out carbon into the environment but the alternative is to rely on mains power which is generated from coal and gas power stations which pump out a lot more toxins than a small hearth.
Equally think of what would happen to the waste that you are burning? Sure, some can be recycled and composted but I'm sure you do that anyway! But what happens to the stuff that can't, it either ends up on landfill or possibly gets incinerated anyway!
There is much you can do to increase efficiency and reduce carbon emissions too. One of the simplest is to use a log store to keep logs dry. Wet logs do not burn cleanly; reducing heat and causing more smoke. By using a simple log store you can ensure they burn cleanly with as little smoke as possible.
When recycling material to make logs it is important to pack the material as tightly as possible, this will make the logs burn slower, producing more heat and reducing smoke. There are plenty of devices on the market that can do this for you. The log maker will compress the logs so tightly they will burn incredibly slowly and produce a lot less smoke.
So my using logmakers, log stores and recycling - having an open fire can be eco-friendly, save you money on heating bills and not cost the Earth!
